The unrest happened at amenities in the port metropolis of Guayaquil in the southwest, and at Cuenca and Latacunga in the Andes.

The Ecuadorian law enforcement on Tuesday said at least 62 men and women had been killed in prison mutinies in a few separate facilities. News of the violence arrives as Ecuador struggles to offer with jail overcrowding and repeated violence involving gangs.

The unrest took place at facilities in the port town of Guayaquil in the southwest, and at Cuenca and Latacunga in the Andes.

Ecuadorean President Lenin Moreno wrote on Twitter that legal organizations ended up at the rear of the violence. “The police and Inside Ministry are performing to regain command of the prisons,” Moreno wrote.

In the meantime, Inside Minister Patricio Pazmino tweeted that a centralized command publish was now investigating “concerted motion by felony corporations to deliver violence in penitentiary centers.”
